The Hobbit

This book was one of my favourite books growing up. It was relatively easy to read and a fantastic intro to the world of magic. As a side note, don’t bother watching the stupidly long three movie Hobbit trilogy, talk about wanting to spin money – Peter Jackson should have made it into a one shot film. He sold out on that one.

Now back to the review, if you are new to the world of dwarves, elves and dragons, you can’t go wrong setting foot into the world of Tolkien. I am not going to go into the prose or the structure, like Tolkien needs me to critique his writing! LOL.

Simply put, for the older children (I think for me I was about 10 when I read this) and teenagers, this book is so right in terms of the length, scale and complexity. Nowadays, books get bigger and bigger, they don’t even do trilogies any more, it’s a series – they keep on spinning that yarn!

I can’t imagine many children reading my reviews, so this one is for the parents. Go buy this for your child if you want to get them into reading and stepping foot into the world of Middle Earth.

Some people might say – what about Lord of the Rings? Yes, they are three cracking books but they are a heavy read and not really for young children. In fact, I know many adults gave up on reading Lord of The Rings, complaining it was just too long.

Blasphemous!

Anyway, back to The Hobbit!

Jim gives The Hobbit an awesome 9/10.

It is a high score! Maybe I’m coloured by this book being the first book I’ve ever read on magic, elves and such………
